About our Walnut Creek concrete company

A freshly poured concrete driveway curves toward a house, with yellow caution tape across it and trees and landscaping nearby.

How I started a concrete business in Walnut Creek

I taught myself concrete on small jobs of my own, then learned the rest working on crews around the East Bay. In 2023 I started Walnut Creek Concrete Works here in Walnut Creek, and I still come out to every job and answer my own phone. Most of our calls come from homeowners in Walnut Creek and the cities around it who want a driveway, patio, steps, a wall or a foundation built properly.

What I care about most is the part you can't see once it's poured. The subgrade, the ground the slab sits on, has to be dug out and packed hard, because a base that's only raked level settles and takes the concrete with it. Control joints, the cuts that give a slab a straight line to crack along, go where I plan them so the cracks don't pick their own spots. That prep is the first thing a tight budget wants to cut, and it's the last thing I'll give up. I'd rather tell you a job isn't worth doing than sell you one that won't hold up. You can see everything we build on our home page.

What you can expect when we do your job

These are the things you'll notice from the first visit to the final walk-through, and the reasons we work this way on every driveway, patio and foundation we pour.

  • You deal with the owner the whole way

I come out to look at every job myself, and my crew does the work with me on site. Nothing gets lost between a salesman who made promises and a crew that never heard them.

  • An estimate that shows each part of the job

Your written estimate spells out the prep, the reinforcement and the finish, because those are what move the price. Rebar, the steel set inside the slab, holds the pieces together if it cracks, so you'll see where it goes and why.

  • Straight answers before you spend money

If your job needs an engineer, a permit or a different approach, we tell you at the estimate, before you spend a dollar on it. We'll also be honest that concrete cracks, and what we do so it cracks where we choose.

  • A clear answer on how long you're without it

Concrete needs curing, a wait while it gains strength, before you walk on it and longer before you drive on it. We tell you up front when you'll get your driveway or patio back, so you can plan around it.

Licensing, insurance and permits for your job

  • Licensed and insured

Fully licensed and insured. That means you aren't taking on the risk of an uninsured crew working at your house.

  • Permits handled with the city

In Walnut Creek, permits come from the city's Community Development Department, and the permit has to be signed by the legal property owner or a California licensed contractor. If your job needs one, we tell you at the estimate and handle the application with the city or county office that covers your address. Replacing the driveway approach or the sidewalk in front of your house, for example, takes an encroachment permit from the city.
